In 1987, Sam Israel established the Samis Foundation. Sam's goal was to enhance Jewish education in Washington State and to enhance the appreciation for Jewish culture and history in both Washington State and in Israel.

Since Sam's death in 1994, the Foundation has granted over $20 million to organizations that have advanced its mission to enhance the quality and continuity of Jewish life.

The challenge of doing good deeds is never-ending, but in these times, the urgency is even greater. Rabbi Tarfon of the 3rd Century of the Common Era observed, "It is not incumbent upon you to complete the task but you are not free to desist from it."
